In the chaos that followed an attempt on the life of the Mohanndan Prime Minister, Joaquín was subjected to an injection courtesy of mysterious assailants posing as first responders. By having his genetics spliced with those of Redwing, Joaquín wasn't just transformed into a human-falcon hybrid, but he was also imbued with the vampiric blood coursing through Redwing, making Joaquín's condition appear to be permanent.Īlthough Joaquín managed his condition like any other Day Walker, things changed when the Outer Circle's grand conspiracy and White Wolf's rise to power became the hero's most pressing problems. Joaquín was also the only one of the villain's subjects who did not revert to their human form after the fact, thanks to the unlikely intervention of Sam's avian sidekick. Shortly after catching up with his enemies, however, it was revealed that Joaquín was one of several unwitting subjects in the experiments of Doctor Karlin Malus.
